Dolce & Gabbana Rolls Out Long Overdue Line Of High-End Hijabs And Abyas

For Muslim women who wear a hijab or abaya, their fashion choices have not been quite as wide as the rest of their outfit. Italian house Dolce & Gabbana is changing all of that.

The new collection for Spring 2016 includes both hijabs (head coverings) and abayas (long dresses) made from high-end fabrics like georgette and satin-weave charmeuse. They’ve been given the full fashion treatment, and come in a variety of patterns, all of them fashion-forward and in line with modern trends.

Designer Stefano Gabbana gave us a peek on Instagram this week.

Since they’re part of the spring collection, the garments are all made to be lighter, and more flowing material. It’s a safe bet that any hijabs and abayas included in the fall collection would be much heavier.

While some backlash has been expressed on social media, it’s only been from Islamophobes, bigots, and general hate mongering idiots. Most people with a brain understand this is just clothing and everyone has a right to fashion.

Looking good is looking good, and that crosses all cultural lines.
